A lot of Montello enquiries start with a specific problem — a child lacking confidence, a teenager with nothing to do after school, an adult who has not exercised in years. All three of those are ordinary here.

Nobody gets thrown in. You learn to stand, guard and move before anyone asks anything else of you.

Montello questions

What people
from Montello ask

Where is the nearest karate club to Montello?

Shen Academy in the Burnie CBD, under five minutes away, running junior and senior karate three days a week.

My child lacks confidence. Will martial arts help?

It is one of the most common reasons parents bring children here. The structure — visible effort, earned progress, an adult expecting them to try — is what builds the confidence, and the karate is how it gets delivered.

Do I need to be fit to start?

No. The fitness comes from the training. Turn up as you are and work at your own level.

What should we bring to a first class?

Comfortable clothes and a water bottle. No uniform, gloves or gear needed for a first session.
